Finn Lough tucked away in Muckross Wood in the unspoilt Fermanagh Lakelands offers one of the most unique accommodation options you can find in Northern Ireland.
Their selection of seven Bubble Domes offer guests the opportunity to sleep under the starry skies in luxurious surroundings. Guests can enjoy stargazing from the bespoke four poster bed, listening to vinyl on the record player or soaking in the tub within the 180° transparent walls.
In August Mr M and I booked a stay for our 5th wedding anniversary, well the traditional gift is wood but under our own interpretation we celebrated by staying in the woods… in our own little bubble. Actually not so little, we opted for the premium bubble dome, 2 huge domes connected together with four poster bed, robes, coffee machine, ensuite bathroom dome and a luxuriant free standing stone bath.
Arriving at the resort we were taken to our abode on a golf buggy into the heart of the woods. Each bubble has it’s own gated entrance and is surrounded by dense wood, totally secluded. If you can tear yourself away from the tranquility of your bubble you can partake in the many activities on offer, cycling, tennis, airsoft (paintballing without the mess) and bushcraft skills are all available on land and then of course there’s the water activities. Overlooking Lower Lough Erne Finn Lough is the perfect base for exploring the waterways. Explore the many islands and inlets in boats, canoes and pedal kayaks or try your hand at fishing for trout and pike. The resort also has 2 miles of woodland trails for you to further immerse yourself in nature.
Our booking included breakfast and a three course meal in the Finn Lough Kitchen, ingredients from local farmers and from the resort’s own polytunnel made for an exceptional dining experience all washed down with delicious wine sourced by the owner himself. The snug bar next door is a cosy place for an after dinner cocktail or digestif.
The buggy is always on hand to take you back to your bubble or on a clear night (which we were lucky to have) you can meander the gravel paths yourself to appreciate the vast amount of stars in the constellations. Back in our cosy bubble we delighted in embracing our inner celestial geek taking in the spectacular view of the night sky, illuminated in it’s full starry glory with not a peek of light pollution to spoil it.
The whole experience was 5 star, the service, the food and the resort. It’s evident owners, Michael Beare and family, are truly committed to creating a very special and high quality experience for each and every guest. They’ve made constant improvements on the resort and are set to open their latest addition in January – The Forest Spa!
Like I need an excuse for a return visit!
